dc.description.abstractChildren with intellectual disabilities are children in special needs, namely intellectual limitations. Intellectual disabilities children need special education to develop themselves through training. The training is carried out using instructional communication to deliver the material. This study was find out how instructional communication of coaches to mentally retarded children in improving achievement in the badminton at SOIna. This study contains a theoretical study of interpersonal communication, children with intellectual disabilities and instructional communication. The theory used in this research is communication planning theory. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of descriptive research. The research method used is a case study. Conducted by observation and in-depth interviews with trainers and volunteers. The results showed the instructor's communication with mentally retarded child was delivered in a verbal and non-verbal language in words and even touch gestures. Every message related to badminton training materials repeated three times followed by movements.en_US
