Abstract

The use of gadgets in children is considered to have a positive impact also have a negative impact. It takes the role of parents related to the use of children's gadgets. This study aims to determine the role of interpersonal communication between parents and children related to the use of gadgets, parental control, and barriers that occur. This study uses Social Penetration Theory by Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor by using descriptive qualitative research methods and constructivism paradigms. The informant category of this research is children aged 15-17 years. Data collection techniques used were observation and interviews. The results of this study are interpersonal communication between parents and children related to the use of devices is very important, where this phenomenon is based on the theory of Social Penetration. Effective interpersonal communication between parents and children can shape the wise behavior of children using gadgets, parental controls are also needed, but there are often obstacles in conveying messages to children regarding the use of gadgets. But these obstacles can be overcome well.
