Abstract: Nationalism is an understanding of the love of a nation that a person has. When you understand the importance of having a sense of nationalism, then every citizen can realize it. The meaning of nationalism is illustrated through the nationalist nature of Indonesian society in scenes in the film Bumi Manusia. This study aims to determine the construction of the meaning of nationalism that appears in the film Earth Man by using the constructivism paradigm. This study uses a qualitative approach with Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis which has three main elements namely sign, object and interpetant. The results of the study found that there are seven meanings of nationalism depicted in the film Bumi Manusia, namely: the meaning of nationalism through objective and subjective factors, showing the true love of the homeland and not leading to chauvinism. The meaning of nationalism is also illustrated through a sense of unity and the national spirit of a group of people living in the same area, a form of resistance through the transional religious movement, awareness of equality of fate and the desire not to be colonized, placing national interests above personal interests.
