Mitologi Sosok Jin Dalam Film “Aladdin”

Abstract

The genie figure can appear in the form of audio-visual products, one of them in the film "Aladdin". This study aims to uncover how the myth of the genie is depicted in the film "Aladdin" with signs and symbols using Roland Barthes's semiotical analysis. Researchers use the Theory of Popular Culture. In analyzing the data, researchers used Roland Barthes's content-semiotics analysis. Researchers describe denotations, connotations, and myths related to the genie in the film "Aladdin". Based on this research, the results show that there is a shifting of meaning and stabilization of understanding the genie. The results show that there is a shift and stabilization of meaning for the understanding of the genie. The myth of the genie that circulated in the community described the genie figure as a frightening figure and bring disaster to humans. While the results of researchers can be from the analysis of the film "Aladdin", that the genie is a sturdy figure, powerfull, friendly and help humans so that they are considered as slaves, in fact humans are genie’s toys, human’s life becomes a stage to show the power of the genie. Jinns can also change shape, can love humans, like luxury, experience acculturation like being able to do breakdancing and beatboxing.
