Konstruksi Budaya Batak Toba dalam Film Pariban Idola dari Tanah Jawa

Abstract

Batak Toba Culture is one of many established cultures in Indonesia that are often adopted by the media to become a movie to repopularize the culture. The research aimed to find out the construction of Batak Toba Culture in the Pariban Idola dari Tanah Jawa film by using a semiotics analysis of Ferdinand de Saussure. The research uses contruction theory of social reality in the mass media, which brought constructivism paradigm and qualitative approach. Research results howed that there were signs of Batak Toba Culture construction began with systems of belief, kinship, and language and included meaning in the Pariban Idola dari Tanah Jawa film. Meaning that seen of film in the scenes is representating Batak Toba through the actors/actress, literal meaning from dialouges, nature condition, tourist attraction, and a typical Batak People’s historical relics. Batak Toba Culture in construction has been in experiencing aculturations with other cultures, have a meeting to be socializing, commit matchmaking with pariban, and has own distinctive mannerism.
